EXAMINING THE SCALE. (Left) Radzmir Hassan and (right) Nasil Tawasil of the Livelihood Enhancement and Peace (LEAP) Program inspect a weighing scale to ensure that the equipment functions properly. The equipment is provided for the 50 former combatants of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) in the Pangapuyan Island in Zamboanga City who farm seaweed in a 46-hectare area. The equipment will help the farmers determine the correct weight of their harvested seaweed before shipment to nearby markets in Zamboanga City. The LEAP Program is a USAID-financed project that provides former MNLF combatants the means to farm corn, rice or seaweed, in support of the 1996 peace agreement between the MNLF and the Philippine Government. It is being implemented in collaboration with the Mindanao Economic Development Council (MEDCo).
